PANEL TALK SUSTAINABILITY: THE ETHICS OF MAKING

Rethinking Sustainability in Contemporary Art

POLLAKS GALERIE hosted a panel discussion exploring how sustainability can be redefined within the art world amid rapid technological innovation, evolving production methods, and changing patterns of collecting. Inspired by the exhibition Synthetic Nature, the event brought together perspectives from technology, sustainable manufacturing, and art collecting to examine the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability in contemporary art.

The conversation addressed the relationship between artistic creation and material production, considering how emerging technologies and innovative manufacturing processes can contribute to a more responsible creative ecosystem. Through discussions on ethical innovation, conscious production, and the evolving role of collectors, the panel explored the opportunities and challenges of integrating sustainable practices into the contemporary art landscape.

Bringing together expertise from across disciplines, the discussion highlighted the shared responsibility of artists, manufacturers, collectors, and cultural institutions in shaping a more sustainable future for the arts. It offered an opportunity to reflect on how innovation, collaboration, and informed decision-making can support more conscious approaches to creating, presenting, and collecting art.
